Physical requirements

Good general physical condition and hiking experience on loose ground are required. The times spent on individual excursions usually range between 1 and about 6 hours; however, in case of important activity that makes it worth the effort, the time spent in the field could inexpectedly become much longer. You should have no difficulties to hike 5-10 km and climb up to about 500-1000m during a day. Equipment

• Good and broken-in hiking boots!
• One set of warm clothing (Etna with its 3300 m altitude can be very cold, even in summer)
• Rain jacket and if possible, -trousers
• Good flashlight (torch)
• (Leather) gloves
• Day-backpack
• Sun protection

• Ski poles for hiking (optional)

Arrival info

Travel arrangements to and from Catania are not included in the tour package, in order to give everybody the best chance to plan his/her trip according his preferences. Catania is easily reached by plane or train (e.g. from Rome airport or other cities). Accommodation

Throughout the trip, the accommodation comfort (3 nights on Etna, 1 night on Vulcano, 3 nights on Stromboli and 1 night in Taormina) is high and fits perfectly into each place's particular ambiance. On the islands of Stromboli and Vulcano, the comfortable hotels*** are right on beautiful beaches, with inviting terraces overlooking the sea.

Preceding / additional days

Southern Italy and in particular Sicily with their incredibly rich cultural and natural background have so much to offer that it is impossible to list all. As well, this tour could be a perfect starting point on a longer trip. Whether you want to spend some more time relaxing on a beach, enjoy the up-class resort ambience of Taormina, or be active,- the choice is yours.
