Tanzania - Weather & Climate

Tanzania’s climate ranges from temperate to tropical, and variations in altitude causes extreme variations in the weather.   Temperatures range between 17C (63F) to 27C (81F) and average precipitation is around 1042mm a year.

In North Tanzania the long rains (Masika) fall between March – May and can make unsealed road travel difficult, and the short rains (Vuli) fall between October – December, In the South of Tanzania the rains fall between November – April.  The hot dry weather in is from January – March attracts the most tourist.

The island of Zanzibar is warm all year round. The North East coast has sea breezes throughout the year, and the center of Zanzibar receives showers all year round. During April – May heavy rains fall everywhere on Zanzibar most tourist avoid the island this time of year.
